PuMP Performance Measurement Practitioner Certification Program

Is your organisation’s success in performance measurement up to YOU?

15-minute Audio Message:

Most of the people I personally work closest with are those who have been tasked by their organisation to lead the development of better performance measures (or even just ANY performance measures). But  they’re not really sure what this means, or how to go about it, given all the obstacles in their way…

Becoming a professional Performance Measurement Practitionermeans that you can step up and lead performance initiatives even when the Executive team or managers won’t, that you can navigate the roadblocks that surface when people don’t really want to measure performance, and that you can manage a system that makes performance measurement a normal part of “real work”.

The PuMP® Performance Measurement Practitioner Certification Program will dramatically boost your capability, credibility and confidence to help people measure what matters, manage your corporate performance management system and lead an engaged performance culture.

How the program works:

The  PuMP® Certification Program is conducted entirely online and by phone, and it specifically involves:

  1. Focusing one week at a time on a step in the program so you quickly put PuMP into practice within your organisation. This makes sure you get a real performance measurement “win on the board”, fast. Doing this maintains momentum, ensures you learn quickly and thus get success sooner as you roll out performance measurement organisation-wide.
  2. For  each step in the program I provide you with extra PuMP facilitation  resources over and above the Performance Measure Blueprint,  such as checklists to prepare yourself to implement each PuMP technique, meeting agendas, email templates for communitcating with your teams, PowerPoints to use with your teams, and  specific tips for how to handle the common questions and obstacles that can pop  up, as you facilitate this step for your teams.
  3. We  have one 90 minute group webinar each week –  where I  help you sharpen your PuMP skills, show you how to prepare for implementing the PuMP step, discuss the specifics of how to facilitate that step for your teams, show you how to use the templates, and how to handle the most common surprises that can (and do) pop up.
  4. Inbetween  webinars, while you are implementing, you email me your progress (e.g. the results maps or measure designs you’ve worked on  with your teams) and I email you some interim feedback to keep you on track.
  5. You have the opportunity for weekly one-to-one telephone coaching with me for that personal focus on your own individual learning and implementation journey.
  6. Bonus Q&A webinars, where I summarise the questions everyone in the program is asking and the great ideas they are coming up with (anonomously, if requested), so you have an extra boost for how to handle all kinds of situations that arise in performance measurement implementation.

The PuMP® Performance Measurement Practitioner Certification Program covers the logical sequence of steps in building the foundation for performance measurement in your organisation, implementing measures for at least one team to make practical progress, and then planning how to implement performance measurement more broadly (even organisation-wide).

The 9 steps to get performance measurement right…

In addition to an introductory session to help you plan and prepare for the program, there are  9 steps we go through, to guide your facilitation of PuMP for your team.

Remember, it’s important to move through a performance measurement implementation fast, and with focus, so you maintain the momentum, learn quickly and get a win on the board sooner. That’s why we cover one step each week.

Here is the webinar program:

INTRODUCTION: Planning & Scheduling Your PuMP Project – choosing the focus of the PuMP Pilot you will facilitate, forming your Measures Team, and scheduling the series of meetings and tasks for the entire program.

STEP 1: Create  Real Demand for Performance Measurement – starting the engagement  process to invoke the want in your team to measure what matters,   selling the benefits of performance measurement and the PuMP® Mind Map technique.

STEP 2: Design  A Measurable Strategy From Top To Bottom – basic frameworks for  strategy design, the elements of a powerful strategy, making strategy  measurable, translating and cascading strategy, integrating performance  measurement with planning, and teaching and facilitating the PuMP® Results  Mapping technique.

STEP 3: Select  a Suite of Powerful Performance Measures – different types of  measures (e.g. lead, lag, KPIs, etc …), aligning measures to strategy,  finding potential measures, best practices for measuring the hard stuff,  getting people excited about measures, and teaching and facilitating the PuMP®  Measure Design technique.

STEP 4: Stimulate Wider Engagement and Buy-in – engaging (not presenting to or consulting with, but truly engaging) people beyond your Measures Team, gathering ideas and feedback to consolidate the measures you’re developing, and facilitating the PuMP®  Measure Gallery technique.

STEP 5: Streamline  Your Measure Implementation System – establishing  accountability for measures, organising performance data for reporting,  automating access to performance data, managing your corporate Performance  Measure Dictionary, and teaching and facilitating the PuMP® Performance Measure  Definition technique.

STEP 6: Analyse  and Report Performance Results – best practice graphical  methods for performance measures, cause analysis and powerful analytics to  support performance interpretation, basic to advanced options for performance  reports, dashboards and scorecards, managing streamlined reporting processes,  and teaching and facilitating the PuMP® Performance Report Design technique.

STEP 7: Interpret  and Use Performance Measures for Improvement –  validly interpreting trends and shifts in performance results, setting  performance targets, integrating performance measurement with business  improvement, testing and tuning business strategy,  and teaching and facilitating the PuMP® Using Measures technique.

STEP 8: Leverage  Your First Performance Measurement Success Story –  creating a powerful case study from our program, marketing the wins to generate  the next wave of demand for transformational performance measurement, and using  the PuMP® Case Study template.

STEP 9: Formalise  Your Performance Management Cycle – designing a corporate  performance office, fine tuning your performance measurement process,  organising the systems to support your performance measurement process,  planning for wider engagement and implementation of performance measures, and  using the PuMP® Performance Measurement Maturity Assessment Tool.

Accreditation as a Certified PuMP Practitioner…

At the end of our program, based on your successful  implementation and documentation of your implementation as a case study (using what you learn in Step 8 above), you will be accredited as a  Certified PuMP® Practitioner by Stacey Barr Pty Ltd.

This will be your license to use PuMP where ever you may go in your employment, or to join us as one of our PuMP Consultants if you want to consult to your own clients, or clients that we introduce you to.
